McAfee updates Mobile Security to 2.0, keeps you protected on the go (video)
If you tend to exercise a bit more caution when using your mobile machine, we imagine you’ll welcome McAfee ‘s Mobile Security 2.0 with open arms. The Intel-owned security connoisseur has just introduced its refreshed apps, designed to protect Android handsets and slates, along with BlackBerry and Symbian smartphones. All users can take advantage of features such as Complete Anti-virus, Anti-spyware, Anti-phishing Protection, Call and SMS Filtering, while Android owners can also try out App Protection, which is said to interpret “how apps are accessing and possibly transmitting personal data,” in order to keep your privacy under control. If you’ve been a paranoid — or smart — user since the first release, then the update will come at no cost, while those of you looking to jump aboard the secured ship for the first time will need to fork over the $29.99 subscription fee. You’ll find all the details you need in the press release just past the break. IDC: iPad maintains tablet dominance, HP’s TouchPad fire sale burned brightly
While the Android tablets continue to roll in , Apple can still lay claim to the lion’s share of the tablet market according to IDC’s latest report. Its research suggests that the iPad holds onto 61.5 percent of the worldwide market share, down from 63.3 percent last quarter. Android devices in total also saw a slight contraction, down from 33.2 percent to 32.4 percent. This is partly explained by the HP TouchPad’s final hurrah , which rocketed the ill-fated webOS tablet up to third place with a 5 percent of share of tablet sales and an estimated 903,354 devices sold. Samsung maintained its Honeycomb tablet crown, nabbing 5.6 percent of all tablet sales. The Korean manufacturer was closely tailed by Barnes and Noble’s Nook Color with 4.5 percent and Asus, arriving at fifth place with a four percent share. Tablets in total sold less than the analysts had predicted, although E-readers outperformed estimates, with 6.5 million E-readers sold in the third quarter, up 165.9 percent from last year. IDC expects some disruptive new tablets will spice up the fourth quarter results and you can take a look at its findings and predictions at the full press release below. Don’t want to shell out the cash for an iPhone 4S? Lease one on O2
If you can lease a vehicle , why not a smartphone? That’s O2′s line of thinking, anyways, as the UK carrier has begun piloting a rental scheme — called O2 Lease — with the iPhone 4S in the driver’s seat. For a 12-month lease period and Continue reading

HTC EVO Design 4G review
It’s no secret that we were downright smitten when HTC dropped 2010′s proverbial bombshell: the EVO 4G . A knockout device that served not only as WiMAX’s ambassador, but also catapulted us into expansive “superphone” territory with what was then a gargantuan 4.3-inch screen. Since then, however, subsequent EVOs haven’t exactly been what we’d call up to snuff. The EVO 3D , while “good,” made gimmicky trade-offs that kept it from being the home-run we’d hoped for. And others, like Samsung, who were once an Android wallflower have seriously stepped up their game — so much so, even Google’s repeatedly taken notice . Where does that leave us with this year’s EVO Design 4G ? With middling single-core specs and a mid-range $100 on-contract price, things aren’t exactly looking up for a device tasked with wielding a torch branded with the EVO’s name. Does it pass muster as a device worthy of its ancestry? Or will the GSM and qHD add-ons keep it from diluting its predecessors good name? Well, frankly, there’s only one way to find out, and that’s to join us as we explore its intricacies past the break. TWCable TV app in development for Android, should drop before the season’s first 3-pointer
It was but a few months ago that we realized an updated TWCable TV iPad app was under development, and this go ’round, the cable giant has figured it best to just go ahead and confess rather than wait for any leaks to do it for ‘em. In other words, a TWCable TV app for Android tablets is in production, and amazingly, it might be out before anyone realizes that there’s no NBA season to speak of. According to the company, it could be released as early as November, and it’ll most certainly deliver “a live streaming TV experience.” In the first build, it’ll also include an interactive program guide, a remote control function for set-top boxes and a DVR manager for remote programming. Coming in 2012? “A live streaming experience,” along with Ice Cream Sandwich support within “the first few months of 2012.” Really screws up your New Year’s Resolution to drop cable, huh? Transformer Prime gets mysteriously and imperiously benchmarked
We’re getting restless waiting for the Transformer Prime , which is why we’ll cling to the meagerest gossip about its performance. Speaking of which, a couple of Asus Eee Pad TF201 devices have cropped up on the AnTuTu benchmarking app, parading scores that apparently crown them lords of the Android mountain. The graph shows a standard 1.4GHz tablet, but the highest result actually purports to come from a Transformer Prime clocked at 1.6GHz, which achieved 12872. By comparison, the top Transformer TF101 score is just 7596. Benchmarks are hard to verify and even harder to translate into real-world talent, but at least our Kal-El hunger has been sated for a while. Nope, there it is again.
